Tzu Chi Youth Deco Design Final Products

Project Overview

There are seven chapters, and each chapters consist varies length of words. Since the text file from the auther is original with editiing, other than just design and create the layout for the book, editing would be part of my responsiblity as well. To be honest, it's a bit pain in the neck on that part, because I am not a very good typewritter in English, not to mention in Chinese. Yes. The book is in Chinese, and I have a bit of hard to "deciper" as the moment. Anway, the book is mixed with Chinese, English text, and pictures, charts and tables. The books is separated into these:

Chapter one is simple introduction, which only contains 222 words; therefore, I will push that before the table of the content, and use this part as sort of preface or editor's note kind of page. Thus, the real chapter one should be next chapter.

There are a lot of randomness in Chapter two. Something worth while to mention is that there are great many missing pictures, which according to the author that he would put those pictures in the next edition. This section is about the type of blueberries, and so, a lot of chart and tables need to be created in order for reader to understand effortlessly. That's enough for now. I'll see how far my progress will be in next couple two or three days, and see if I can move forward to next few chapters.

SY Catalog (sister company website~)

SY is the product manufactor / sales company and its sister company is service company for scaffolding; however, currently SY doesn't have its own website, and so, I had to dervive my research from its sister company PK scaffolding.

Some contents were removed due to the company's confidentiality. Other than that, here are some key notes from the last meeting:

1. need product serial codes
2. product serial code should be in number and English
3. 6 is 中低欄杆
4. the catalog should be in bilingual.
5. there should space for copyright serial number
6. the catalog should be separated into two: one is New Elevated Fencing System and another one is New Gaping Fencing System.

The two with logos are 3 X 6 cm square, and the ones without are 4 X 5 cm square. Also, just a friendly reminder, you need to click the images to make the images' resolution higher.

To fit the whole Tzu Chin design code, the female figure should be more conservative to avoid controversy, but how conservative is conservative?

I reshaped the right side characters' shape to fit the policital correctness, and made the little adjustment for the male figure shorter and darker to fit the group's dress code.

To make this character more male like, I shapened the face, downsized the eyes, altered hair style and gave him different skin tone. So far, it appears to be working

I added the highlight for the hair, but decide not to do anything for the shoes to avoid complicating the whole image, since the whole character is already detail enough. Besides, the printing area is on a narrow strip, and as one of my friend suggested to me, cropping the figure like the image shown here would be just enough for printing, because this approach still allow the detail to be shown without compromising its' printing size.

However, more issue rises in this project. For some unknown reason, the girl looks like guy; guy looks looks tremendously like the girl.

I need the solution quick before the due day, which is tomorrow...

Final Design (the whole spread)

This is the final design for the masthead revision project. The visual style is in Takashi Murakami's Superflat, and the font style is Kokouza.

After seeing this on physical page, here are something that still can be improved: the folio position is too close to the body text on the right hand spread, and the visual graphical element that crosses the page still has some sharp and rough outline.

This is the continuation of the female character design, and i think it's almost completed... Just need some highlight and shade forthe hair and for the shoes... and that's about it.
